A Basenji-based mutt named Frida from the SPCA that we picked up yesterday. A Samaritan found Frida chained to a fence in Oakland and took her to the SPCA. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and we’ve all had an ache. I confess, I’m falling for this one.
Frida has zero clue that anything issuing forth from our mouths has anything to do with her. As well, the existing dog Binx, the little Schnauzer-based terrier , is being real snarky. I’m sure all of this is fixable with some group therapy. We’re meeting with a personal (dog) trainer tomorrow afternoon.
Frida is very submissive and affectionate. She is also very curious, and I suspect that once we learn how to get her up to speed as a
domesticated animal
, she will show herself to be very intelligent. For a dog.
She also wants to PLAY, but really has no idea how to. Her favorite toy so far is an empty milk crate in the yard. She’s bug-eyed, looks like a Hyena, and has a racoon’s tail; PERFECT!

That’s a good looking doggo!
Any idea yet if she has a voice? I know purebred Basenjis tend to make yodeling-like sounds or stay mostly silent rather than barking, but I’m not sure how that pans out with a mixed-breed.

Ruby says welcome to Oppo. Find a soft place to lay and enjoy the sweet life.
We had a dog when I was a kid that never cared about toys, but he absolutely loved attacking empty two liter bottles.

Oh, she has a voice, alright. But her bark isn’t all that loud. In fact, her bark earned her a night in the garage last night, which I think turns out to be the best arrangement for her. She grew up in a yard, or as sidekick to a homeless person, and she for sure fell fast asleep out there last night.

Good for you! I’ve been stocking up on doggo time so I can make it through the week. Rocky has been by my side every minute since I’ve been home except when I was mowing the lawn this morning. Gotta love dogs. We don’t deserve them.

She’s gorgeous! Congratulations to all of you!
Ravna would say welcome, but the heat has worn her down:

very nice - love the pic too. She’s got that slightly spastic but honest “i’m happy to be here!” expression that Zoidberg’s awesome fluffybutt has.

Snarky. We may engage a private trainer to guide us. Long term investment, and all.

She’s funny looking. Hyena face and a raccoon’s tail. And the sweetest dog you’d ever wanna meet.
Ravna’s got pretty eyes. Where does that name come from?

She’s actually not spastic at all, but a little high strung and extremely curious.

I like the dusting of black she’s got around her eyes and the rims of her ears. Gorgeous in my book at least.
It’s from a science fiction novel I like (_A Fire Upon the Deep_ by Vernor Vinge). There’s a few reasons I felt it was appropriate. I don’t know if it has a history. I tried googling it once and didn’t turn up much.
